2017 Knitting Retreat

June 20-27, 2017   KNITTING ON ISLAND TIME

$975 US (shared room)       $1075 US (single room)

-includes accommodation, all meals, outings to explore the island, knitting instruction, transportation from point of landing on Pender Island

This is our 17th year!  The theme for 2017 is Silk! Linen! Cotton! We will explore the history and versatility of these fibres, which have been used since ancient times. No sheep in sight this year. A variety of smaller projects will develop familiarity and confidence knitting with these yarns and some of their blends. Selection will range from simpler ones suited to adventuresome beginners to ones to challenge advanced knitters. There is always lots of individual help available from my daughter, Dani, and me to ensure success. Complete yarn kits may be ordered from me in advance for $40 (at cost). A detailed list of what you need to bring will be sent out in late May. For those not ordering a yarn kit, I will also send a detailed yarn list. Please, pease, bring the right things, as Pender Island does not have a yarn store.

Accommodation:

Spread over four floors, Whale Pod Chalet is a large, modern West Coast style house on high bank waterfront on the west side of Pender Island (one of the gulf islands off the coast of Vancouver, BC, Canada). The view is spectacular! Officially there are "7 bedrooms, a loft, and a den" but actually there are sleeping places scattered about the house. Most rooms are for two people with two beds, but single rooms are possible on several levels. The stairs have solid handrails. The roof deck is complete with a hot tub under the stars; other decks provide sun or shade throughout the day. The decks, the upstairs sitting room, and the mostly-glass solarium provide wonderful light for knitting.

Meals:

All meals are included from lunch on the arrival Tuesday to lunch on the departure Tuesday, but if you are leaving on a late ferry, we'll provide a light supper or something to take with you. Meals include breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner each day. Chef Christian will be returning from Europe to tempt you with entrees of meat, poultry, and seafood served with salads and lots of fresh vegetables, decadent desserts, and perhaps even his special chocolate truffles at bedtime. Most special diets and food allergies can be accommodated as long as we know well in advance.

Travel:

Easier than you think! There are lots of options to get here:

Air: Both Vancouver and Victoria have international airports. Vancouver also has train service from Canada and the USA. Once landed, you take a ferry boat to Pender Island.

Ferry Boats: From either Vancouver airport or Victoria airport you take BC Ferries to come to Pender Island. From Port Angeles, WA, you take The Blackball 'Coho' into Victoria and then take BC Ferries to come to Pender Island. There is also Washington State Ferries, which run from Anacortes to Sidney, near Swartz Bay (where BC Ferries leaves for Pender Island) .

Float Plane: Scheduled float plane service is available from Vancouver with SeaAir and from Seattle with Kenmore Air.

Private Boat: Several marinas provide moorage if you come by private boat.

There's parking at the house if you come by car.

We will meet you wherever you land on Pender Island. We will also do our best to have knitters met at Victoria airport and Washington State Ferry dock and transported to the ferry terminal at Swartz Bay.

Suitable for adventuresome basic knitters all the way to advanced. Project(s) are adapted for individual skill-levels.
